I thought they were just "water resistant" but I had a friend who used to swim laps wearing one, and sure enough I tried it and the sound was great. so you could convert your mp3s to tape, and then find one of those somewhere - for cheap I would think - and bob's your uncle. indeed those old sony sport walkmen were waterproof.
